Our Why Each and every one of us has had someone close to us suffer from cancer. Whether that be a close friend or relative, our community as a whole has suffered a close loss in their lifetime. This being said, cancer research and treatments cannot get enough awareness, funding, and attention because of the frequency of diagnoses. In 2019, just under 2 million people were diagnosed with cancer just in the U.S. The more we set up funding, the more we bring attention to it and eventually help researching for cures. Our Idea We wanted our service learning project to be something impactful, not only for us, but for our community. Adopting the "Coaches vs. Cancer" project done in previous years, we have made it more broad and changed it to "Fight For A Cure" and use it during the fall athletic season. Our main goal is to bring the Dragon Community together and even communities around us to help raise money through raffles, t-shirts, and individual donations to organizations like Riley Hospital, specifically, the Riley Pediatric Cancer Research Fund since September is mostly Pediatric Cancer Awareness month.
The Game Plan
We really plan on getting it announced before and during the game, that way the crowd can know about it and want to purchase raffles to enter their name in what raffle baskets they want. But, we also plan to put it out on twitter with pictures that way the community will have a heads-up. There will be many different baskets set up, including gold accents since September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. There will be baskets under categories like food, entertainment, spa, New Pal/Greenfield apparel, etc.. We plan to set up our table right where the track connects in almost a "V" shape, by the concession stands and have signs that way Greenfield fans know that we are selling raffle tickets/baskets. Collecting raffles will be challenging, but with the help of our cheerleaders and students peers we will be able to get the job done quickly and responsibly. ABOUT MEHello, my name is Aglaia Rudd and I am currently a Senior at New Palestine High School. For this project, I am also working with Quin Lumbley, Sydney Hughbanks, Honour Mallory, and Audrey O'dell. We have decided to adopt "Coaches vs. Cancer" and put our own little twist on it. The Objective
__________________________________ Step 1. Talk to Mr. Cooper about specific dates
**Our first step was to get permission to set up our event at the New Pal vs. Greenfield football homecoming game, which was a success. Step 2. Go around to businesses **Our next step was to go businesses in and around New Pal and ask if they would be willing to donate any products or certificates to our raffle baskets. Step 3. Putting it all together **Finally, we have to make sure we get the announcement out there, via posters or flyers. Also, at the game, making sure that it is announced to we can have as many raffle tickets bought as possible. Proceeds and BenefitsCancer, in general, is well-known throughout the world. But more awareness and attention could be specifically brought towards Pediatric Cancer. That being said, all of the proceeds will go to the Riley Pediatric Cancer Research Fund.
